Welcome to HBX Studio! We're a small, growing firm specializing in both interiors and architecture for multi-family, commercial, and retail spaces. Over the past 5 years, we've built a small but mighty team of professionals who genuinely enjoy working together.  Our vibrant, high-ceilinged office is a hub of energy and creativity. We work there together 3 days per week and we embrace balance & flexibility by working remotely on Mondays & Fridays.

MID-TO-SENIOR INTERIOR DESIGNER / ARCHITECT

PROJECT ARCHITECT

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Interior Design to join our close-knit team. In this role, you'll have the chance to be the design lead on a wide variety of commercial projects and continue to grow your skills in a supportive environment.

The ideal person will be confident, trustworthy, open to feedback and be able to effectively communicate their ideas to teammates, clients, consultants, suppliers, contractors and fabricators alike. People thrive at HBX when they are proactive by nature and take pride & ownership in their work.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent in Interior Design/Interior Architecture.

  • At least 8+ years of commercial experience (HBX focuses on retail, office & multi-family)

  • A strong background in Interior Architecture, a high standard of technical ability and a broad knowledge of materiality

  • Strong Revit and Adobe Creative Suite skills

  • A passion for FF&E with robust knowledge of suppliers, product and specialist finishes

  • Experience working on all aspects of projects, from concept to completion

  • An understanding of and respect for project programs, budgets and deadlines

  • An exceptional eye for scale and balance, detail and color

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of design concepts in collaboration with team members and clients

  • Under minimal supervision, develop space plans and programs, design development, and construction drawings and specifications

  • Provide consistent and timely communication of project information with clients and project team

  • Coordinate with consultants and clients throughout the design and construction process

  • Assist in interpreting industry codes and standards, and ensure design and drawing compliance

  • Streamline processes and procedures to increase quality and efficiency

  • Nourish and encourage growth of existing client relationships

  • Support business development activities, including marketing proposals, interviews, etc

Design Leadership

  • Contribute to the development of internal design standards and guidelines; ensure they are implemented by the team

  • Identify and express design philosophies with appropriate vocabulary

  • Advocate for & inspire creativity, critical thinking and design excellence

  • Mentor junior team members and foster a positive, collaborative working environment

  • Incorporate new ideas and perspectives into every aspect of our firm

Salary Range:
$70 - 105k, depending on experience

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Project Architect to join our close-knit team. In this role, you'll have the chance to be the technical lead on a variety of projects, contribute your design expertise across all stages, and continue to grow your skills in a supportive environment. If you're passionate about exterior design, thrive on collaborating with others, and can put together sets that make contractors say “this is the best set we’ve seen all year,” we'd love to meet you!

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with team members and clients to develop and refine design concepts

  • Serve as the technical lead on projects, ensuring impeccable detailing, compliance with codes, regulations, and best practices

  • Coordinate with consultants and clients throughout the design and construction process

  • Review and approve architectural drawings, documents, and specifications

  • Mentor junior team members and foster a positive, collaborative working environment

  • Incorporating new ideas and perspectives into our designs

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or related field

  • Licensure preferred, licensure path required

  • 8+ years of experience in architectural design, with a focus on multi-family, commercial, and retail projects

  • Proven experience as a technical lead on at least 3 medium to large scale projects

  • Strong technical skills, including experience with exterior design

  • Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
