Inspiring retail growth with strategic design
Over the past four years, HBX has been a key strategic partner to OnPoint Credit Union, helping them expand into 25+ new branches. This branch, in Sherwood, was our first project together. As the OnPoint team was seeking something new and fresh in their branch design, they granted the HBX team considerable leeway in reimagining what a branch looks and feels like, leading to key innovations that have been continued onto dozens of additional locations.

The objective of the Sherwood branch was member growth in a new geography: most people who walked into the branch would be new to OnPoint. Thus our design imperative was clear: communicate the brand ethos of warm, welcoming community through the architecture.
One of the most important aspects of feeling welcome and comfortable in a new space is intuitive wayfinding — knowing where to go without instruction.
We layered intuitive signals: shifts in flooring material, layered lighting and obvious sight lines to offer intuitive pathways and clearly delineate spaces for movement, work and relaxation.
Inspired by hospitality, we carefully selected an emotionally evocative material pallet that layers rich, natural and highly textural materials to inspire OnPoint’s desired feelings of warmth & welcoming.
Mindful of the delicate balance of openness and privacy required for member comfort and for the OnPoint Team’s working needs, we utilized elevated walnut and glass dividers to create zones of seclusion and spaciousness.
We also ensured that the less visited spaces continued the brand ethos and were places that would make team members proud to be part of OnPoint.
Our most impactful and enduring innovation was re-imaginging the teller row experience to remove the physical barriers traditionally placed between members and tellers — a practice that has carried through to all 25 additional OnPoint projects we have done to date.
